In 1942 Shmuel crossed the border from Slovakia into Hungary. He operated in the underground together with his wife, Otilia. Shmuel moved to Romania within the framework of the tiyul, was arrested there by the police but because he asked to meet a representative of the Slovak embassy he succeeded in getting released.
Shmuel made aliya and joined Kibbutz Ha’ogen.
